The annual food festival organised by Aardvark Books and local food champion, Carolyn Chesshire............

The third annual Mortimer Country & Food Fair takes place on Saturday 10 July 2010 at Aardvark Books in Brampton Bryan, a picturesque chocolate-box village at the centre of the historic Harley Estate on the north Herefordshire/south Shropshire borders where England meets Wales.

The Festival was born out of the enthusiasm of its founders, Carolyn Chesshire who runs Lower Buckton Country Guest House (www.lowerbuckton.co.uk) specialising in creative cooking with local seasonal food and Sheridan Swinson who with Edward Tobin own Aardvark Books Ltd, a rather large bookshop-in-a-barn in the depths of the countryside!

Each year the emphasis is to showcase an array of local food and craft businesses all individual micro-producers who will be exhibiting by invitation only.

This year there will be top-quality small independent food and drink producers from the area including Muddy Boots Foods, recent stars of BBC1’s Jo Malone’s TV show; The Mousetrap, specialist artisan cheese makers; Alex Gooch’s artisan organic bakery; master potter Tony Hall, maker of much-celebrated giant, hand-thrown garden pots; Chelsea Gold Medal winners The Cottage Herbery; single estate coffees, local ciders, traditional apple growers, organic vegetable small-holders and baskets of delicious, ripe English cherries, antique kitchenalia, country crafts plus lots of delicious food for eating “on the hoof”!

Exciting activities and entertainment throughout the day include the book launch of…… . cookery demonstrations from the Austerity Years in the Kitchen, children’s cooking class, craft workshops, the best strawberry jam competition and live music.

Festival director Carolyn Chesshire says “We are delighted with success of the Mortimer Country & Food Fair and this year’s promises to be better than ever. Whether you are a serious foodie or just love good food & drink, we have lots to taste, buy and share with your family and friends all with a wonderful festival atmosphere”

The hosts, Aardvark Books have a vast array of books on every subject from Aromatherapy to Zoology with 1000’s of cookery, garden and design books to browse in between. Their café will be serving refreshments all day.

The 2010 event is bigger and better than ever! Lots of food stalls specialising in local, artisan products: hot food outlets with mouth-watering, freshly cooked food for all tastes; organic fruit and vegetables; cookery demonstrations, talks and presentations; young cooks' kitchen for hands-on tuition; country antiques, crafts and pottery; local ciders, wines and beers; freshly baked organic bread; cream teas; home-made cakes; book launch; live music and lots of foodie tastings!

Everyone welcome and there's plenty of free parking: the perfect ingredients for a day out in the pretty country village of Brampton Bryan!
